Biden Calls Ohio Election Law Efforts “Shameful”
After Mitt Romney’s fiery claims about the Obama camp and military voting rights in Ohio, I asked Vice President Biden’s office for his response immediately after he gave a veterans-oriented address to the Disabled American Veterans meeting in Las Vegas Saturday.
Here is Biden’s reply to TIME, focusing on Ohio Republicans, rather than Romney:
“It’s the members of the military and veterans who fought for everyone’s right to vote. The attempt to restrict their voting rights in Ohio — along with the voting rights of all Ohioans — is shameful.”
Here are earlier statements from the Romney campaign and the Obama campaign.
Republicans are clearly trying to use an otherwise slow Saturday to gin up a redux of their successful 2000 Florida recount gambit regarding military personnel voting rights. Their various statements and tweets are clearly just the beginning of an echo chamber effort on national security and (let’s face it) patriotism that will mirror in faux umbrage and techniques what they have done on the President’s recent remarks on small business.
Biden’s statement to me, along with an aggressive push back from Chicago, shows just how serious and aggressive Democrats plan to be in this case — and in every comparable case. Biden didn’t directly reply to Romney, but if the Republican keeps it up, the White House will likely snap back even harder.
