Mr. Selweski, talks about “ringers” in local elections whose names are placed on the ballot to “muddy” or spoil an election rather than to legitimately seek the public office. They have names similar to a real candidate and are placed on the ballot by a candidate’s opponent to confuse the voters and draw votes away from the real candidate “victim” whose name is similar to the ringer’s.
Mr Selweski tells how his state’s attorney general, Bill Schuette, brought criminal charges against a politician who had employed a ringer to defeat his opponent. Most states have a statute that makes it a felony to engage in this intentional deception using a ringer.
I think it would be great if Attorney General Bill Schuette would issue subpoenas to require the people at Americans Elect to appear before his grand jury and answer some questions.
