CHARLES BYRN BIOBOX

Age: 42
Education: Graduate of Oviedo (Fla.) High School, 1988; graduated with bachelor’s degree in political science from Hardin-Simmons University, 2006; graduated with master’s degree in elementary education from Grand Canyon University, 2010; accepted into Ph.D. program of University of Phoenix.

Community involvement: President of nonprofit Big Country Support the Troops; youth football coach for Ravens in the All Texas Youth Football League; teacher’s aide at Fannin Elementary, 2007-08; president of Abilene Community Council of PTAs, 2009-10; PTA president at Reagan Elementary, 2008-09.
Why I’m running for office: I’m running for school board because I feel the AISD needs to be more fiscally responsible with our taxpayers’ money. I also want to make sure that the technology our kids use is updated. My premise is working with the parents and teachers, and that we need to get the community involved. I have the experience necessary to being a school board member, from being a teacher’s aide at Fannin to being the president of the PTA at Reagan and being the president of the Abilene Community Council of PTAs. My son is a fifth-grader at Bassetti Elementary and I deal on a regular basis with his teachers to see his progression and what goes on in the classroom. I think that helps someone on the school board to make decisions that help our children due to the fact that I have a child in the school system. I’m not running for the position; I’m running to improve the educational system in the AISD.
